All welcome to join us from 10.30am on Saturday 31st October for our last pilgrimage of the year, from Brooking Church to Rattery, followed by optional lunch in the Church House Inn. Booking essential for both the walk and the pub. Offered on a donation basis (with £20 – £40 suggested). Please contact Sam – help with lift sharing is also appreciated.
This will be a peaceful morning of wandering and wondering, in the spirit of the Celtic peregrinatio, along the beautiful old path from Brooking Church to St Mary’s, Rattery, which winds around the Bidwell Brook (one of the River Dart’s tributaries). Our guide this month is Clare Coyne of Immerse in Nature, who brings wonderful skills of forest bathing and nature-based therapy. Our pilgrimage falls on All Hallows’ Eve, as the year turns towards winter, so we will be holding themes of thresholds & transitions, encounters, nourishment and storytelling – remembering our ancestors and all who have gone before us.
Free parking is available and we gather with a cuppa from 10.30am at Brooking Church, to then set off at 11am. We will begin in the churchyard and the walk from there will be mostly silent, with the option to share reflections at the end. The walk is around 3 miles long and includes steep slopes, narrow paths and uneven terrain, so a reasonable level of fitness is needed. Please wear walking boots and bring waterproofs, snacks & drinks. You may also wish to have your journal/notebook/sketchbook etc. This event is open to all, of any sacred or secular orientation.
This is a one-way guided pilgrimage, with the option to either make your own way from Rattery or self-guide back to the start point. Please let Sam know if you would like a place in the pub booking & family members or friends are welcome to join us at this stage, even if they haven’t done the walk. Numbers need to be confirmed in advance though – thanks!
